How should winter jujube trees be managed in July? Please advise.
For managing winter jujube trees in July, you can refer to the following methods:
1. Fertilization. For mature jujube trees producing about 15 kg of fresh jujube per tree, apply fertilizer at the standard rate of 1.1 kg urea, 0.25 kg phosphorus pentoxide, and 1.8 kg potassium sulfate per tree; for young trees still developing, apply fertilizer at an annual rate of 25 g pure nitrogen and 20 g phosphorus pentoxide per tree.
2. Summer pruning. For jujube trees that grew excessively vigorously or bore few fruits and did not receive summer pruning during the flowering period, summer pruning should be carried out promptly during this period.
3. Pest and disease control. Continue to strengthen the control of alternaria leaf spot; use 90% methomyl 3000x solution plus 1.8% abamectin 3000-4000x solution, or 9.5% fenbutatin oxide EC 4000-5000x solution, to control spider mites and similar pests; for peach fruit borer and cotton bollworm, use Anda 4000x solution or Baode, etc.; strengthen the monitoring and prevention of jujube rust. In conjunction with controlling alternaria leaf spot, starting from July 10, use fungicides such as Wanxing, Fuxing, Yibao and other azole-type pesticides to prevent jujube rust, applying once every 7-10 days. In particular, spraying for protection must be done within 3 days after rain, which can effectively prevent the occurrence of jujube rust.
4. Apply wound healing agent to the girdling cut: If the girdling cut has not healed by early July, a girdling wound healing agent should be applied. The method is: remove the sealing mud from the girdling cut, locate the newly formed callus tissue, score it, then apply the liquid medicine to the scored area, and seal it tightly with mud or plastic sheeting. Note that after tying the plastic sheeting, it should be loosened promptly after one or two days to avoid local overheating that could damage the girdling cut.
