What kind of soil is suitable for growing blueberries? Please advise
The ideal soil type for blueberry cultivation is acidic sandy loam, sandy soil or peat soil that is loose, well aerated, moist and high in organic matter. When blueberries are grown on calcareous soil, heavy compacted soil, dry soil or soil with too low an organic matter content, failure will result if the soil is not improved.
Blueberries grown on typical berry-field soil grow and fruit better than those grown on heavy soil and fertile soil. The root system of the blueberry is fine and slender, and on heavy soil it cannot penetrate the soil layers and grows very slowly, which leads to poor growth. Heavy, neutral soil with a low organic matter content often easily leads to poor blueberry growth because of its poor soil structure, poor aeration and poor drainage. On calcareous soil and soil types with a higher pH value, blueberries are highly prone to iron-deficiency chlorosis symptoms. On dry soil, root damage easily occurs, mainly because the blueberry root system is distributed very shallowly.
