What management does a loquat tree need in summer? Please provide guidance.
The main aspects of summer loquat tree management are as follows:
1. Clear the ditches: loquat roots are shallow and intolerant of waterlogging, so after the recent continuous rainfall, drainage ditches should be cleared in time.
2. Fertilization: it is best done within 7-10 days before harvest, with the amount accounting for 40% of the annual total, generally applying 1-2 kg of compound fertilizer plus 0.3-0.5 kg of urea per tree, and 4-5 kg of cake fertilizer or barnyard manure.
3. Pruning: promptly cut off diseased and pest-infested branches; after harvesting, thin out dense branches, weak branches and dead branches, cut back and renew the fruiting branch groups, and whitewash the trunks. This year, due to freezing damage and fruit cracking, the fruit yield was relatively low and more shoots emerged, so relatively crowded shoots should be cut back and shortened in time to renew the fruiting branch groups and reduce the alternate bearing phenomenon.
4. Pest and disease control: ① Leaf spot disease control: clear fallen leaves and burn them in a centralized manner; for spring shoots, spray with 50% carbendazim at 600-800 times dilution. For the yellow hairy caterpillar, at the early stage of larval hatching, spray with 90% trichlorfon at 1000 times dilution or 90% methomyl at 3000-4000 times dilution.
