How should kiwifruit be managed during the fruit-swelling stage in August? Please provide methods.
During the fruit-swelling stage of kiwifruit in August, the following methods can be used for management:
Vine tying: At this stage, when tying vines, new shoots should not be tied crossing each other. Except for a few that need to be tied upright, they should generally be tied at an angle to moderate the growth vigor. The vines should not be tied too loosely, to prevent wind from causing leaf friction, which can cause the fruit to turn black, but the new shoots should not be tied too tightly either, otherwise it is unfavorable for the new shoots to thicken and grow.
Pinching: The tender buds at the very tip of long shoots should be removed to prevent curling back. But note: after mid-August, pinching should generally no longer be done, otherwise it easily stimulates plump buds to sprout in autumn, affecting the next year's growth and fruiting.
Pruning: Cut out twin branches, overly dense branches, and diseased or pest-infested branches. When pruning, thinning should be the main approach, and excessive heavy shortening should not be used.
Topdressing: For root fertilization, generally apply 10-13 kg of pure nitrogen fertilizer, 4 kg of phosphorus, and 5-7 kg of potassium per mu, applied in 1-2 split applications. For foliar spraying, use 0.2% urea + 0.5% monopotassium phosphate or 600 times dilution of calcium lactate solution.
Pest and disease control: To control brown spot disease, generally spray 800 times dilution of 70% thiophanate-methyl; to control yellowing disease, a mixed solution of 300-400 times dilution of Guoyou amino acids + 6000 times dilution of Stedkop has a good effect, generally once every 7-10 days, spraying 2-3 times; if there are red spider mites in the orchard, add 1.8% abamectin microemulsion at 3000-4000 times dilution and the foliar fertilizer calcium lactate for control.
