Why do chestnut trees need fertilizer before and after harvest? Can you explain why?Chestnut trees need fertilizer before and after harvest because chestnuts have a long fruiting period and bear a large crop, consuming many nutrients. Around the time the fruit ripens, the tree's vigor is already in a starved or semi-starved state, very weak, which is unfavorable for flowering and fruiting the following year. If pre-harvest and post-harvest fertilizer is applied in time to replenish nutrients, it can speed up the recovery of tree vigor, make the tree strong, and lay a good foundation for high and stable yields the following year. The fertilization methods can refer to the following:
1. When the chestnut fruit turns brown, apply pre-harvest fertilizer, mainly with quick-acting fertilizers. For trees bearing 50 kg or more, apply 1.5-2 kg of urea and 0.5-1 kg of potassium chloride per tree, broadcast after rain, or apply as a drench with 80-100 kg of decomposed and rotted human and livestock manure water.
2. Within 5-10 days after harvest, apply post-harvest fertilizer, mainly with nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer and high-quality organic fertilizer. Apply 2-3 kg of nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer, 1.5-2 kg of decomposed and rotted peanut cake, and 25-30 kg of decomposed and rotted human, livestock and poultry manure per tree. Dig a ring trench 25-30 cm deep and 25-30 cm wide around the drip line of the canopy for fertilization.
If the weather is dry, after fertilizing, drench each tree with 80-100 kg of clean water or decomposed and rotted human and livestock manure water to promote the dissolution and transformation of the fertilizer, supply it for root absorption and use, and improve the fertilization effect.
3. Before and after harvest, foliar fertilizer should also be sprayed, spraying 3-5 times a mixture of 0.1% magnesium sulfate, 0.3% urea, 0.5% monopotassium phosphate, and 0.1% triacontanol, once every 7-10 days.
