For the sweet cherry growing environment, you can refer to the following:

   1. Suitable terrain for a cherry orchard:
The orchard site for sweet cherries should be chosen on high ground that does not easily accumulate water and has a relatively low groundwater table; generally, the groundwater table during the rainy season should not exceed 80 cm.
On plains, it is best to have a shelterbelt on the south side or at the north end of the village; on hillside land, choose a shallow valley that is sheltered from the wind and faces the sun.
These two types of sites can both prevent wind damage and allow sweet cherries to receive ample sunlight and more heat in spring, which is conducive to early ripening of the fruit.

  2. Suitable soil for cherry trees:
It is best to choose neutral to slightly acidic soil for establishing the orchard; the required depth of the living soil layer is at least 100 cm; the soil type should be sandy loam or loam, and the soil organic matter content should be above 1%; continuous cropping should be avoided.

  3. Light requirements of cherry trees:
When establishing a sweet cherry orchard, consider whether there is frost damage risk and the light conditions, etc. To reduce frost damage, the sweet cherry orchard site can be chosen in a place with good air circulation or higher terrain, such as gently sloping terraces. Sweet cherry is a light-loving fruit tree, so the selected terrain should be open and have sufficient sunlight. Shaded places such as hills and the north slopes of mountainous areas are not suitable for establishing a sweet cherry orchard.

   4. Water requirements of cherry trees:
Sweet cherry leaves are large and thin, with high water transpiration, and are not drought-tolerant, so necessary irrigation facilities must be provided to ensure suitable soil moisture. Therefore, there should be a water source around the orchard site so that timely irrigation can be carried out during drought, and the groundwater table should be relatively low so that water does not easily accumulate, and during the rainy season drainage and waterlogging prevention can be carried out well.
