Zhongdi Network has compiled the hazards of banana AIDS and simple prevention and control methods, listed below for netizens' reference.

  The hazards of banana AIDS:
The full name of the "banana AIDS" disease is "Panama disease tropical race 4." Panama disease has always been regarded as the arch-enemy of bananas; its fungus can lie dormant in the soil for more than 30 years and spreads through water droplets and soil clinging to machinery or shoes.

Once a banana plant is infected with Panama disease, water and nutrients can no longer be transported within the tree, causing the central part of the banana plant to shrivel and blacken, and within 2 to 3 years it can completely wither all the trees in a banana plantation. Because banana "AIDS" has a long incubation period, spreads quickly and can spread globally, it could cause the entire industry to be wiped out.

     Causes of banana "AIDS":
It is mainly a soil-borne disease caused by Fusarium in the soil. In summary, there are 3 main causes of the disease: first, the heavy use of nitrogen fertilizer; second, a lack of oxygen caused by compaction of the soil around banana roots; third, a severe lack of medium and trace elements in the soil.

     Prevention and control recommendations for banana AIDS:

Recommendation 1: Strictly control the amount of nitrogen fertilizer used;

Recommendation 2: Apply more organic fertilizer to increase the soil's organic matter content;

Recommendation 3: Use soil conditioners in sufficient amounts, which can both supplement the medium and trace nutrient elements severely lacking in the soil and promote the formation of soil aggregates, and while solving soil compaction, stimulate bananas to produce large amounts of secondary metabolites, thereby avoiding the occurrence of diseases such as banana yellow leaf and root rot.
