The main citrus pests and diseases include anthracnose, gummosis, scab, citrus blossom midge, red spider mite, aphids, scale insects and mealybugs, etc. Zhongdiwang has compiled control methods for citrus pests and diseases, listed below for fellow gardeners' reference.

  Citrus disease control methods
CitrusControl methods for gummosis, anthracnose, scab and sooty mould: spray with 77% Kocide 2000 at 800 times dilution, or 50% duomeiqing wettable powder at 800~1000 times dilution, or 60% myclobutanil mancozeb wettable powder at 1500~2000 times dilution, or 80% Daconil wettable powder at 400~600 times dilution.

  Citrus pest control methods

1. Citrus blossom midge: when flower buds show white, spray with 80% dichlorvos emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution + 90% trichlorfon crystal at 800 times dilution; this also controls aphids.

2. Mites (red, yellow and white spider mites): spray with 40% yinman emulsifiable concentrate at 1500~2000 times dilution; 34% saomanite emulsifiable concentrate at 1000~1500 times dilution. Alternate or mix the above three acaricides.

3. Scale insects: at the early hatching stage, i.e. late April and mid-May, spray with 40% supujie emulsifiable concentrate at 1500~2000 times dilution, which controls arrowhead scale, red wax scale, black scale, cottony cushion scale, etc.

4. Aphids and whiteflies: spray with acetamiprid or imidacloprid formulations at 1000~2000 times dilution.

5. Leafminer: use deltamethrin, kung fu emulsifiable concentrate and other pesticides to spray evenly when new shoot leaves grow to 1~1.5 cm; for swallowtail butterflies, you can manually kill the eggs or silkworm-like larvae on young buds and leaves, or use yellow sticky boards to trap adults, or use miesaoli, trichlorfon and other pesticides for control. In general, fungicides and insecticides can be mixed (alkaline pesticides should be used alone), which both improves efficacy and reduces labour intensity.
