Like other cucurbit crops, watermelon also suffers from downy mildew. Zhongdi Network has compiled the harm caused by watermelon downy mildew and its prevention and control methods, listed below for readers' reference.

The harm caused by watermelon downy mildew:
Downy mildew mainly harms watermelon leaves, and occasionally can also harm stems, tendrils, pedicels, etc. In the early stage of downy mildew, water-soaked light green spots appear on the underside of watermelon leaves and gradually turn yellow. After the lesions expand, they become polygonal due to the restriction of leaf veins, and finally turn brown, but the edges of the lesions remain brown, and the boundary between diseased and healthy tissue is not obvious. In a humid environment, black mold grows on the lesions on the underside of the leaves.

In a high-temperature and dry environment, the lesions quickly wither and yellow, spread slowly, and the disease develops slowly.

Prevention and control methods for watermelon downy mildew:

Prevention and control method one: Cultivation management measures should be strengthened, such as cultivating strong seedlings, applying more manure and potassium fertilizer, strictly controlling watering, paying attention to field ventilation, and promoting robust plant growth.

Prevention and control method two: After discovering watermelon plants with downy mildew, diseased leaves should be picked off immediately and buried deeply or burned, and spraying should be carried out at the same time to control the development of the disease.

Prevention and control method three: Spray with 75% chlorothalonil 600-fold solution, or 25% metalaxyl 1000-fold solution, or 80% mancozeb 500-fold solution; the above agents should be used alternately, spraying once every 7 days, for 3~4 consecutive sprays. When spraying, focus on the underside of the leaves.
