The harm of damping-off disease to kiwifruit seedlings:
Damping-off disease mainly occurs at the kiwifruit seedling stage. It is generally spread by diseased plant residue in the soil and enters through wounds and lenticels. At normal temperature (around 20°C) with high humidity, waterlogged roots, or during the high-temperature and drought period from July to September when excessive water is applied, it easily infects kiwifruit seedlings, damaging the root crown and the stem and leaves above it.
In the early stage, kiwifruit seedlings develop disease from the root crown, showing water-soaked small spots that are light brown, semicircular or irregular in shape. Afterwards the small spots expand, the cortex at the root crown rots all the way around, and the leaves above ground wilt; the root cortex of diseased seedlings rots and easily falls off, leaving only the xylem. Leaf symptoms are similar to those on young stems.
Control methods for damping-off disease in kiwifruit seedlings:
Control method one:Choose a plot with high terrain, good drainage and loose soil as the seedbed; if conditions permit, carry out soil disinfection; apply decomposed organic fertilizer; or treat the soil with 5406, which can prevent this disease.
Control method two:At the early stage of the disease, promptly dig out diseased seedlings and burn them in a centralized manner, and spread plant ash mixed with lime (plant ash : lime = 8 : 2) on the seedbed to prevent the disease from spreading; in the middle stage of the disease, spreading 75% Dexon original powder at 800 times, or 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder at 600 times on the seedbed is effective.
Control method three:Damping-off disease is a fungal disease, so treat it with fungicides. For example, pentachloronitrobenzene at 200-400 times solution; or 50% carbendazim at 800-1000 times solution, sprayed once a week for 2-3 consecutive weeks; or use 1:1:200 Bordeaux mixture or 0.3-0.5 degree lime sulfur mixture.
