What are the pests of sugarcane? How to effectively control them? We also ask knowledgeable readers to help explain.Throughout the entire growth period of sugarcane, the main pests are root pests, leaf pests and stem pests. Zhongdiwang has compiled the control methods for these three types of pests, listed below for readers' reference.
Sugarcane root pests, namely underground pests, mainly include wireworms, mole crickets, scarab beetles, termites, crickets, etc. The control methods are as follows:
Method 1:At sowing time, apply 3.6% bisultap granules mixed into the base fertilizer per mu, or 5% carbosulfan, or 5% Dongli and other granules at 3-4 kg, to kill the pests already active in the soil.
Method 2:When the field pest population density, that is, the damage rate of sugarcane plants, is above 2%, apply pesticides promptly in combination with intertillage and earthing up. Generally, use 2.5% decamethrin at 2000 times dilution per mu, or 90% trichlorfon at 800-1000 times dilution, or 50% phoxim emulsifiable concentrate at 1000-1500 times dilution, or 50% diazinon emulsifiable concentrate at 1000-1500 times dilution, 60 kg, applied as an alternating spray.
Sugarcane leaf pests are mainly piercing-sucking pests, including cotton aphids, yellow aphids, thrips, sugarcane planthoppers, sugarcane leaf cockroaches, mealybugs, stink bugs, mites, etc. The control methods are as follows:
In the early stage of leaf pest occurrence, generally use 10% imidacloprid per mu, or 40% chlorpyrifos or 80% dichlorvos at 1000-2000 times dilution, 60 kg, for spraying and killing. For cotton aphids and yellow aphids, the first control is from late June to mid-July, and the second control is from mid-August to early September. For pests such as thrips, sugarcane planthoppers, sugarcane leaf cockroaches, mealybugs and stink bugs, the timing of pesticide application should be determined according to the occurrence and damage of the pest population.
Sugarcane stem pests are mainly boring pests, including the two-spotted borer, the striped stem borer, the large stem borer, the yellow stem borer, the white stem borer, the Taiwan rice stem borer, etc. The control methods are as follows:
Method 1:According to the field population density of stem borers, apply pesticides in combination with intertillage and earthing up. Generally, use 3.6% bisultap granules per mu, or 5% carbosulfan, or 5% Dongli and other granules at 3-4 kg, concentratedly sprinkled on the base of the plants.
Method 2:Seize the larval stage of the stem borer and apply 90% trichlorfon crystals at 500 times dilution per mu, or 80% dichlorvos at 800-1000 times dilution, 60 kg, sprayed on the heart leaves. Especially when the striped stem borer is causing damage, if the heart leaves show the characteristic of a mosaic ring, pesticides can be applied promptly for concentrated spraying and killing.
