What harm does brown spot disease do to Hami melon:
Brown spot disease is a common disease of Hami melon. It is relatively widely distributed, mostly occurring sporadically, with mild symptoms, and has no impact on production. In severe cases, the diseased plant rate can reach more than 80%, causing some leaves to become diseased and necrotic, affecting yield and quality to a certain extent.
Symptoms: This disease mostly occurs in the middle and late stages of Hami melon growth, and only infects leaves. In the early stage, small brown spots appear on the leaves, which later develop into nearly round to irregular brown necrotic spots, with large differences in size. The edges of the spots are obvious and often have a yellow-green to light yellow halo. Generally, the mold layer on the spots cannot be seen; it is produced only under continuous rain or high humidity conditions, namely the pathogen's conidiophores and conidia.
Conditions for the onset of brown spot disease:
Warmth and high humidity are conducive to the disease. The disease onset temperature is 20-30°C, relative humidity above 90%, and when the temperature is 25-27°C and humidity is saturated, the disease occurs more severely. High temperature and high humidity in the middle and late growth stages, or more rainy days, or long periods of closed greenhouse conditions, or large day-night temperature differences are all conducive to the disease.
Control methods for brown spot disease in Hami melon:
Method one,In severely affected plots, implement crop rotation with non-cucurbit and non-legume crops for more than 2-3 years to control the disease.
Method two,Strengthen cultivation management, pay attention to ventilation and air permeability, apply fertilizer scientifically, irrigate at the right time, cultivate strong seedlings, promptly remove diseased plants when found, and thoroughly remove diseased residues after harvest to reduce field sources of inoculum.
Method three,In the early stage of the disease, spray with 70% thiophanate-methyl wettable powder at 600 times dilution, or 80% Daconil wettable powder at 600 times dilution.
For early prevention and control, 6.5% dimethirimol dust formulation can be used for dusting at 15kg/hm2.
