What causes strawberry viral disease? How do you prevent and control strawberry viral disease? We would also like experienced growers to share their insights.During growth, strawberries often show leaf veins that are slightly transparent, uneven leaf color forming a mottled mosaic, and in severe cases the leaves become uneven, wrinkled and deformed. At the same time, diseased plants grow slowly and are severely stunted, and the strawberry fruit also shows severe deformation. The same plant can also show mosaic, yellowing, necrosis and deformity, and this is strawberry viral disease.
Strawberry viral disease is a disease that causes relatively severe damage to strawberry production, with large losses and relatively difficult prevention and control. Therefore, Zhongdiwang has compiled the causes and prevention and control methods of strawberry viral disease, listed in detail below for the reference of growers.
I. Causes of strawberry viral disease:
The pathogenic virus of strawberry viral disease cannot overwinter on diseased plant residues. Strawberry viral disease can only parasitize and overwinter on strawberries that are still alive and growing in winter, on perennial weeds, and on strawberry stock plants serving as hosts. In the following year, on the surviving hosts, it spreads through insect transmission, contact and wounds, and infects strawberry plants through the wounds caused by pruning and thinning. Aphid feeding is also one of the main routes of transmission. High temperature and dry environmental conditions are suitable for the proliferation and occurrence of strawberry viral disease. If the strawberry field is managed extensively and weeds grow densely in the field, the disease occurs more severely.
II. Prevention and control methods for strawberry viral disease:
Method 1. Select disease-resistant strawberry varieties:
Different strawberry varieties have different resistance to viral disease. During cultivation, in order to reduce the occurrence of viral disease or slow down its damage, varieties with relatively strong resistance to viral disease should be selected for cultivation. Japanese No. 99, American No. 3, Nyoho, Dasai and Jingxiang are all varieties with relatively strong resistance to viral disease.
Method 2. Strengthen the management of the strawberry field:
The level of soil fertility directly affects whether strawberry plants grow robustly. Therefore, whether in open-field or protected cultivation, sufficient organic fertilizer should be applied to provide a better growing environment for strawberry plants. At the same time, intertillage and weeding should be strengthened in a timely manner, and aphids should be eliminated in a timely manner to reduce the transmission routes of strawberry viral disease.
Method 3. Timely prevention and control of disease-carrying insect pests:
Aphids are an important transmission vector of strawberry viral disease, and the cultivation technique of interplanting thick-skinned melon in greenhouse strawberries should pay attention to the prevention and control of aphids. First, the avoidance behavior of aphids can be used by setting up yellow sticky boards to trap aphids and silver-gray film to repel aphids, which can achieve relatively good control effects.
During strawberry seedling raising, aphids, whiteflies and thrips should be eliminated in a timely manner. Strengthening the installation of insect-proof nets in greenhouse strawberry sheds is the most effective measure to block virus transmission vectors. Before transplanting strawberry seedlings, drenching the seedlings with 25% Actara water-dispersible granules will have a long-lasting effect of more than 30 days for preventing aphids and whiteflies. It is a relatively good method for preventing aphids and reducing virus transmission. 2~3 days before transplanting, spray the seedlings with a 1500~2000-fold dilution of 25% Actara water-dispersible granules. In addition to spraying the leaves, the solution should also penetrate into the soil. Spray about 2 kg of solution per square meter of seedling bed. It has a very good effect on controlling aphids and preventing viral disease.
Method 4. Use chemical agents to control strawberry viral disease:
You can spray with a 2500~5000-fold dilution of 25% Actara water-dispersible granules, or a 1000-fold dilution of 10% imidacloprid wettable powder, or a 1000-fold dilution of 10% Kangshiding wettable powder, or a 1500-fold dilution of 2.5% green kung fu aqueous solution, or a 1000-fold dilution of 1.5% Zhibingling emulsifiable concentrate, or a 500-fold dilution of 30% Bingduxing wettable powder. All of these have a certain controlling effect on strawberry viral disease.
