A detailed guide to composting methods: learn it easily in just a few simple steps
How to make compost
1. Select and formulate organic materials according to the guidelines above, and mix them (about 1000 kg).
2. Activation of the combined microorganisms: add 200 kg of water to a container, add 0.5 kg of "Lan Shijie Mandian No. 18", 10-20 kg of molasses, 0.5-1 kg of fish essence or 0.5 kg of urea, stir well and let stand for 12-24 hours before use.
3. Add the activated microorganisms to the pile of organic materials, mix well, then adjust the water content until, when squeezed tightly by hand, moisture can seep out between the fingers but does not yet drip down (about 50-60%).
4. Pile to a height of about 60-90 cm (varying with the weather and temperature). Avoid heavy wind and rain.
5. Cover with burlap, straw or a thin blanket.
6. For large-scale production, pile to a height of 1.5 m, and set up air pipes on the ground to blow air intermittently with a high-pressure (Lushi) blast furnace for a sufficient time; the aeration time is determined by the fermentation temperature, and aeration stops once the temperature exceeds 60°C.
7. Leave it for several days; if the core temperature exceeds 65 degrees, the pile must be turned, but no more than once a day.
8. When the temperature drops to between 65 degrees and 50 degrees, observe the dryness of the organic matter on the surface; if the surface is completely dry (fermentation has stopped), the pile must be turned, but no more than once a day.
9. When the temperature drops to 49 degrees or below, add more Lan Shijie "Mandian No. 18" compost enzyme, using 1/4 of the amount used the first time (0.5 kg of Lan Shijie "Mandian No. 18", 50 kg of water, 0.5 kg of molasses, activated before use).
10. If the compost is too dry, adjust the water content a second time by adding water to the compost until, when squeezed tightly by hand, moisture almost seeps out between the fingers, but is drier than after the first watering, and continue fermenting.
11. Use the fermentation temperature to evaporate the moisture in the organic materials; as the moisture gradually disappears, the temperature naturally gradually drops, and when the core temperature drops to 40°C-42°C, it can be used, or spread out to a thickness of about 20 cm and dried in the shade.
12. If you want to make fully matured compost, you must repeatedly add water until the water and air are sufficient and the temperature still does not rise above 40 degrees, after which let it ferment naturally and evaporate dry.
13. If you wish to store it, it must be completely dried in the shade before it can be packaged.
14. The total fermentation time is preferably about 3-4 weeks (semi-mature compost) to 3-4 months (fully mature compost).
