Raising pheasants generally refers to the domesticated breeding of the common pheasant, commonly known as the ring-necked pheasant. Pheasant meat is firm in texture and deliciously savory, with a flavor close to that of wild game birds, making it a relatively closely watched project in specialty farming. After years of selective breeding, domesticated pheasants can now adapt to confined rearing conditions, making this fairly feasible for farmers and breeders with suitable site conditions.

Site selection is the foundation of pheasant farming. Pheasants retain a certain wildness and flying ability, so the site should be chosen on sloping land or woodland that is relatively high in elevation, dry, sunny, and far from pollution and residential areas. Netting and overhead netting must be installed around the perimeter and across the top to prevent the pheasants from flying away. The housing should be well ventilated with a dry floor, and provided with perches and sand baths to satisfy their activity and dust-bathing habits.

In terms of feeding management, temperature, humidity and lighting control during the brooding period are especially critical. Pheasant chicks are sensitive to cold and weak in constitution, so they need to be weaned off heat gradually. For daily feeding, a diet made from corn, soybean meal, wheat bran and the like can be provided, with an appropriate supplement of green fodder. At the same time, cleaning, disinfection and vaccination should be done well to prevent common diseases such as Newcastle disease and coccidiosis; sick birds should be isolated and handled promptly.

In terms of practical value, pheasant farming has a relatively short cycle, and its products include market birds, breeding eggs and chicks, mostly sold to the catering market and specialty food channels. Some farmers also combine hillside woodland to develop ecological farming. It should be noted that stock should be introduced through proper channels by purchasing domesticated breeds and completing the relevant procedures. Never capture wild pheasants, and before entering the business you should first conduct market research and control the scale reasonably to reduce operational risk.
