Sheep farming techniques refer to a complete set of methods and experience formed around the raising of sheep and goats, covering such aspects as breed selection, pen construction, feed formulation, breeding and lamb rearing, and disease prevention and control. How well these techniques are mastered directly affects the health of the flock and the benefits of farming, and is basic knowledge that farmers must learn when getting started.

In terms of breed selection, common sheep breeds include Small-tailed Han sheep, Hu sheep, and Dorper sheep, while goats include local and introduced breeds such as the Boer goat. Different breeds vary considerably in their ability to adapt to climate and feeding conditions. When introducing breeds, one should take into comprehensive consideration the local forage resources and market demand, and avoid blindly following trends.

In daily feeding, sheep mainly eat roughage such as pasture grass and crop straw, with appropriate supplementation of concentrate, silage, and minerals. In management, animals should be raised in separate groups, with breeding rams, ewes, and lambs cared for separately, and pens cleaned regularly to keep them dry and well ventilated. Deworming promptly in spring and autumn and vaccinating according to schedule are key measures for preventing diseases such as sheep pox and foot-and-mouth disease.

Common problems for beginners include foot rot caused by damp pens, unbalanced nutrition caused by a single type of feed, and low survival rates caused by improper care of lambs. It is recommended that beginners start on a small scale, become familiar with the animals' habits, and then gradually expand the scale. They should usually ask local animal husbandry departments or experienced farmers for advice, and steadily improve their farming level.
