No scientific basis for using Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui to treat premature ejaculation
Using Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui to treat premature ejaculation is a claim circulating on the internet, and many people want to try it after seeing so-called folk remedy shares. However, judging by the nature of the medicine, Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui is a commonly used Chinese patent medicine for relieving the exterior, and its instructions state that it mainly treats common colds caused by exogenous wind-cold, internal damage from dampness and stagnation, or summer-heat and dampness. Its common indications include headache with heaviness and dizziness, abdominal distension and pain, vomiting and diarrhea, and premature ejaculation is not among its indications.
In terms of ingredients, Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui is composed of patchouli oil, perilla leaf oil, Angelica dahurica, Atractylodes lancea, Magnolia officinalis bark, dried tangerine peel, Poria cocos, areca husk, raw Pinellia ternata, licorice extract and others, and its overall effect tends toward relieving the exterior and transforming dampness, regulating qi and harmonizing the middle. Premature ejaculation, however, is a male sexual dysfunction, and its causes are mostly related to psychological stress, high local sensitivity, prostatitis or endocrine factors. The two have no direct corresponding relationship in either the pathogenesis of traditional Chinese medicine or the pathology of modern medicine.
At present, there is still a lack of rigorous clinical research evidence supporting the ability of Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui to treat premature ejaculation. The isolated cases circulated online are mostly personal experiences and are difficult to use as a general basis. If proper diagnosis and treatment are delayed because of this, it may instead affect health. The safer approach is to go to the andrology or urology department of a regular hospital, have a doctor evaluate the cause, and then choose standardized options such as behavioral training, psychological counseling or drug treatment.
It should also be noted that Huoxiang Zhengqi Shui contains alcohol, and during use it should not be taken together with drugs such as cephalosporins, and it should also be avoided before driving or operating machinery. Using it casually as a health product or increasing the dose may bring risks such as gastrointestinal discomfort. When facing health problems, following medical advice and using medicine scientifically is the correct attitude.
