Pig farming is a traditional livestock production activity, referring to the process of raising piglets into commercial pigs or breeding pigs through scientific feeding and management. To raise pigs well, you need to understand the pig's living habits and also master basic techniques such as pen construction, feed formulation and disease prevention and control; it is essential for beginners to make a systematic plan before getting started.

Site selection is the first step in pig farming. Pig houses should be built in places with higher terrain, good drainage, and far from residential areas and water source protection zones, achieving warmth in winter and coolness in summer, and being ventilated and dry. Inside the pen, a rearing area and a manure treatment area should be set up separately, and enough activity space should be reserved; excessively high stocking density can easily cause stress and disease.

As for breeds, common ones include introduced breeds such as Duroc, Landrace and Large White, as well as local pig breeds from various regions. Introduced breeds grow quickly and have a high lean meat rate, making them suitable for large-scale raising; local pig breeds have strong adaptability and good meat flavor, but their growth cycle is relatively longer. Farmers can choose according to market demand and their own conditions.

In feeding management, pigs are omnivores, and the daily ration should mainly consist of compound feed, with nutritional levels adjusted according to the growth stage, feeding at fixed times and in fixed amounts, while ensuring sufficient clean drinking water. During the piglet stage, attention should be paid to supplementary feeding and warmth, and during the fattening period, attention should be paid to controlling the temperature and humidity of the pen, minimizing stress factors such as group transfers and noise.

Disease prevention and control is the key to the success or failure of pig farming. In daily practice, adhere to the all-in-all-out principle, regularly vaccinate, deworm and disinfect, and strictly disinfect outside personnel and vehicles before they enter the pig farm. When abnormalities such as decreased appetite and listlessness are found in pigs, they should be isolated promptly and a veterinarian should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment; do not use medication at will.
