Across Taiwan, China, illegal factories on farmland: the Council of Agriculture completes the first wave of demolitions with five structures, and at least ten more will be demolished in the second wave.
To protect prime agricultural production areas, the Council of Agriculture released a mapping platform last year. In addition to surveying farmland use across Taiwan and tallying up all the illegal factories on farmland, it also adopted a mandatory "report and demolish immediately" approach for factories built after May 20. In response, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Council of Agriculture held a cross-ministerial press conference today to announce the latest progress, naming the first wave of 17 factories slated for demolition, of which 5 have already been demolished. In addition, the second wave of the demolition list is also expected to include at least 10 illegal factories.
Of the first wave of 17 factories on the report-and-demolish list, 5 have been demolished so far
According to the "Protect Farmland - Demolish Newly Built Illegal Factories on Farmland" platform, the first wave of 17 illegal factories on farmland falls into two categories, "completed" and "under construction," with 8 completed and 9 under construction. As for the 5 that have been demolished so far, 2 are in Kaohsiung City, 2 in Tainan City and 1 in Chiayi County, for an overall demolition rate of 29%. The Council of Agriculture also said the remaining 12 will all be demolished by the end of March.
