Goldfish are a traditional ornamental fish domesticated from the crucian carp, with a rich variety of body colors and shapes; common varieties include the common goldfish, the dragon-eye, the lionhead, and the bubble-eye. They are gentle in temperament and have a certain ability to adapt to their environment, but if daily management is improper they are prone to problems such as oxygen deficiency, gasping at the surface, and fin rot, so mastering scientific rearing methods is essential.

Water quality is the foundation of keeping goldfish well. Tap water usually needs to be left to stand for one to two days to remove residual chlorine before use; the tank is best equipped with filtration equipment, and part of the old water should be replaced regularly, with each water change not too large in volume, to avoid drastic fluctuations in water temperature and water quality. Stocking density must also be reasonably controlled, as a small tank with many fish can easily cause oxygen deficiency in the water.

As for feeding, goldfish do not have an obvious sense of fullness, and overfeeding easily causes indigestion and deterioration of water quality. In daily care, they can be fed at fixed times once or twice a day, with the amount eaten within a few minutes being appropriate; the feed should mainly be special pellet feed, occasionally supplemented with live bait such as bloodworms and water fleas, and the live bait should be cleaned before feeding to reduce the risk of introducing pathogens.

In daily management, attention should also be paid to changes in water temperature and dissolved oxygen in the water. Goldfish are suited to living in an environment with relatively stable temperature, and when changing water the temperature difference between the new and old water should not be too great. Usually observe the goldfish's swimming state and changes on the body surface more often; if sluggish movement or abnormalities on the body surface are found, they should be isolated and treated promptly. Only by keeping the water clean and feeding regularly can goldfish grow healthily and display a good ornamental effect.
