Are Bulldogs Easy to Keep? Gentle in Temperament but Demanding in Care
The Bulldog is a dog breed with a sturdy build and a simple, honest look, and the most common types are the English Bulldog and the French Bulldog. They have obvious wrinkles on the face and a short, flat nose, and they waddle when they walk. Although they look somewhat fierce, they are actually very gentle in temperament.
In terms of temperament, Bulldogs are docile and clingy, fairly friendly to children and family members, do not bark much in daily life, and do not need much exercise, so they are suitable for keeping in an apartment. This is also the main reason many people think they are easy to keep.
However, there are things to watch out for when keeping a Bulldog. Because their nose is short and their respiratory tract is narrow, they are sensitive to heat and to strenuous exercise. In summer, take care to prevent heatstroke, and it is best to walk them in the early morning or evening. The wrinkles on the face easily trap dirt, so they should be wiped regularly and kept dry, otherwise skin problems can easily develop.
As for diet, Bulldogs are naturally prone to becoming overweight, so feeding should be done at fixed times and in fixed amounts, and too many snacks should be avoided. In daily life, also pay attention to cleaning the eyes, ears, and teeth, deworm and vaccinate on schedule, and seek medical attention promptly if abnormal breathing or poor spirits are noticed.
Overall, Bulldogs have a good temperament and need little exercise, so keeping them day to day is not really difficult; the difficulty lies mainly in the details of care. As long as the owner is patient and willing to clean them regularly and control their weight, they can become a very suitable family companion dog.
