The Calathea orbifolia has fresh green leaves, and it is not difficult to care for once you master the methods.
Calathea orbifolia is a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant in the genus Calathea of the family Marantaceae. It gets its name because its leaves are round and full, green in color with silver-gray stripes, looking like the color of a green apple. It is native to tropical America, and its plant form is neat and attractive, making it one of the very popular indoor foliage plants in recent years.
Its leaves are broad, mostly round or oval, with a jade-green surface marked by regular parallel silvery-white stripes and an underside often tinged with light purple, giving an overall fresh and elegant look. Placed in a living room, study, or on an office desk, it can create a rich natural atmosphere and has high ornamental value.
For care, Calathea orbifolia likes a warm, humid, semi-shaded environment. The suitable growing temperature is around 18 to 25 degrees Celsius, and in winter attention should be paid to keeping it warm and protecting it from the cold. Normally it should be placed in bright indirect light and avoid direct sunlight, otherwise the leaf color tends to fade or even become scorched. Watering can follow the principle of watering when the soil is dry and letting it dry between waterings, keeping the potting soil moist but not waterlogged. When the air is dry, spray water on the leaves and surroundings more often to increase humidity.
In daily care, if leaf curling or withered leaf tips occur, it is mostly related to air humidity being too low, light being too strong, or improper watering. After adjusting the environment in time, it can mostly recover. Propagation is commonly done by division, which can be carried out together with repotting by separating the plant into several clumps and planting them separately. As long as the temperature and humidity are suitable, Calathea orbifolia is not difficult to manage and is a foliage plant very suitable for home growing.
