Sedum lineare is a perennial succulent herb in the genus Sedum of the Crassulaceae family. Its leaves are slender like threads, tightly arranged, and bright oily green, which is why it is also called "Buddha's fingernail." The plant is low-growing and creeping, and its stems root easily where they touch the ground. It spreads quickly and has strong coverage. In late spring and early summer, it also produces small golden-yellow flowers, giving it an overall fresh and natural look.

Among the commonly cultivated types, Sedum lineare 'Aureum' (golden sedum) is very popular. Its leaves are golden yellow, and the color becomes even brighter with sufficient light, making it suitable for flower border edging and ground cover landscaping. Many people confuse Sedum lineare with Sedum sarmentosum (stringy stonecrop), but the two are actually not hard to tell apart: Sedum lineare has narrow, nearly linear leaves, while Sedum sarmentosum has wider leaves, mostly oblanceolate, and a more obvious creeping, trailing habit.

For care, Sedum lineare prefers a sunny environment and can also tolerate partial shade. The more light it receives, the more compact the plant form and the better the leaf color. It is not demanding about soil, but loose, breathable, well-drained sandy loam is best. Water according to the principle of keeping it dry rather than wet, and never let water accumulate in the pot, otherwise root rot easily occurs. It is very drought-tolerant and also has some cold tolerance. Daily management is simple, making it a typical easy-care succulent.

Propagation is mostly done by cuttings and division. Cut healthy stems and insert them into slightly moist soil, place them in a cool, ventilated spot, and keep the soil slightly damp. They will root and survive quickly, and after one or two months they may fill a pot. Thanks to its strong coverage and drought-tolerant, easy-care nature, Sedum lineare is often used for rooftop greening, slope protection ground cover, and courtyard paving. It is equally suitable for potted or hanging display, making it a practical and low-maintenance green plant.
