Money Tree leaves turning yellow is a very common occurrence in home care, mostly showing as leaves going from green to yellow, losing their gloss, and in severe cases becoming soft, drooping or dropping off. In most cases this is not the disease itself, but a problem with care conditions such as watering, light, temperature or nutrients, a distress signal sent by the plant.

The common causes fall into a few main categories. Overwatering, with the potting soil staying wet for a long time, so the roots cannot breathe properly, is the most typical trigger; long-term lack of light or a sudden move into full sun can also make the leaves turn yellow. In addition, cold damage from low winter temperatures, air that is too dry, and nutrient deficiency from not fertilizing for a long time can likewise cause yellow leaves, and compacted potting soil or poor drainage in the pot will make the symptoms worse.

After spotting yellow leaves, first move the plant to a ventilated spot with bright, indirect light, then check how dry or wet the potting soil is. If the soil is on the wet side, stop watering and loosen the soil a little; in serious cases you can take the plant out of the pot to check the roots, cut away the blackened, rotted parts, and repot it in fresh, loose, breathable soil; if the soil is too dry, replenish the water gradually and never soak it all at once. Leaves that have already turned yellow generally cannot return to a lush green, so they can be trimmed off as appropriate to reduce nutrient consumption.

In everyday care, the Money Tree likes a warm environment and slightly dry potting soil; water by letting the soil dry out before watering again, and it is better to keep it a bit dry than waterlogged. A position with bright, indirect light is best, avoiding long periods of full sun or a dark corner. During the growing season you can apply a small amount of dilute liquid fertilizer, and in winter take care to keep it warm and protect it from the cold, so the leaves can stay glossy and green for a long time.
