Plants suitable for placing on an office desk generally need to meet a few conditions: small in size, tolerant of shade and drought, and easy to care for. Offices run air conditioning all year round, light is limited, and watering is not very convenient, so when choosing, give priority to varieties with low environmental demands. They are easy to care for and not prone to yellowing leaves or withering.

The more common ones include pothos, spider plant, snake plant and succulents. Pothos can be grown in water or soil, and its stems and leaves hang down naturally, looking very elegant placed at the corner of a desk; snake plant has upright leaves and is especially drought-tolerant, so it is fine to water only after the potting soil has dried out completely.

Succulents and cactus balls are small and cute, take up little space, and are very suitable for placing beside a monitor. In addition, small potted plants such as lucky bamboo, peace lily, parlor palm and radiator plant have neat plant shapes and are also good choices for desktop display.

For care, remember to keep them on the dry side rather than wet. Desktop pots are small and hold little soil, so overwatering easily causes root rot. Just wait until the potting soil dries and then water thoroughly once. Light-loving succulents and cactus balls should be placed as close to the window as possible, while pothos and peace lily have good shade tolerance and can still grow normally farther from the window. Do not let the air conditioning vent blow directly onto the plants, otherwise the leaves easily turn yellow and dry at the tips.

If you notice the leaf color becoming lighter and the branches growing leggy, it is mostly due to insufficient light. You can move them to the windowsill to get some sun every so often. Rotate the pot every few days so the plant receives light evenly, and the plant shape will become more well-balanced. Looking up at this touch of green during breaks at work can also help relax tense nerves.
