Zhongshengmycin is an agricultural antibiotic fungicide produced by fermenting a specific Streptomyces species, and it belongs to the N-glycoside class of antibiotics. It is particularly effective against bacterial plant diseases and also has some incidental protective effect against certain fungal diseases, making it fairly widely used in agricultural production.

In terms of its characteristics, Zhongshengmycin is a bio-based pesticide with low toxicity and low residue. It degrades relatively easily in the environment and is comparatively environmentally friendly, making it suitable for inclusion in green control and integrated pest management systems. Its mode of action mainly involves interfering with the normal metabolism of the pathogen and inhibiting protein synthesis, thereby preventing the pathogen from growing and reproducing; it has both protective and curative effects.

Common formulations of Zhongshengmycin include wettable powders, soluble powders and aqueous solutions. It is mostly applied as a spray diluted with water, though in some cases it can also be used as a soil drench. Its target pests and diseases include rice bacterial leaf blight and bacterial leaf streak, citrus canker, Chinese cabbage soft rot, and apple alternaria leaf spot, and it provides good control of bacterial diseases on a range of crops. Flowers such as orchids are prone to bacterial soft rot during hot, humid seasons, and some growers also use it as one of their preventive treatments, but it is best to first test it on a small area when using it for the first time and only expand the treated area after confirming there is no phytotoxicity.

When using it, note that Zhongshengmycin generally should not be mixed with alkaline pesticides, as this may reduce its efficacy; if rain falls shortly after spraying, a supplementary spray should be applied as appropriate once the weather clears. To slow the development of resistance, it is recommended to rotate it with agents that have different modes of action, and to strictly follow the crop, dosage and pre-harvest interval registered on the product label; it should be stored in a cool, dry place.
