An orchid garden is a garden space that mainly cultivates and displays orchids (family Orchidaceae), serving the functions of viewing, leisure and education. In China, orchid gardens mostly focus on Chinese orchids (Cymbidium), emphasizing the collection of varieties and the creation of a suitable environment, so that visitors can enjoy the bearing and delicate fragrance of orchids in a serene atmosphere.

In terms of varieties, the Chinese orchids commonly seen in such gardens include the major groups of Chunlan (Cymbidium goeringii), Huilan (Cymbidium faberi), Jianlan (Cymbidium ensifolium) and Molan (Cymbidium sinense), and each group is further divided into numerous famous cultivars, such as Wenrihe Chunlan, Lingqiaoyun Huilan, Zuihe Molan and Sanguoyuanmei Qiubang Molan, each with its own distinctive flower form and fragrance. Besides Chinese orchids, some orchid gardens also introduce tropical orchids such as Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium, so that there are flowers to admire in every season.

As for care, orchids generally prefer a semi-shaded, humid and well-ventilated environment, and the growing medium must be loose, airy and well drained, commonly mixed from materials such as bark. Watering should follow the principle of letting the medium dry out between waterings, avoiding long-term water accumulation in the pot that causes root rot, while fertilizing should follow the principle of applying light fertilizer frequently. In summer, appropriate shading and cooling are needed, and in winter, attention should be paid to keeping warm and preventing cold damage. In daily care, one should also watch for pests and diseases such as scale insects and stem rot, promptly removing diseased leaves and maintaining air circulation.

It is worth noting that although Clivia (Clivia miniata) has the character for orchid in its Chinese name, it is not a plant of the orchid family, and its care differs markedly from that of orchids; improper watering can easily cause problems such as stuck flower stems, so it must be treated differently in cultivation. Overall, an orchid garden is both a place to admire and savor orchids and a platform for orchid enthusiasts to exchange and learn, carrying the profound heritage of traditional Chinese orchid culture.
