The multi-color peony is an ornamental variety among Chinese orchids. The "peony" in its name does not refer to the peony of the Paeoniaceae family, but rather to a common naming convention in the orchid world. There are quite a few orchid varieties named after the peony, such as Jiuxian Peony, Lin'an Peony, and Lanping Peony, which belong to different orchid species such as Cymbidium goeringii, Cymbidium faberi, Cymbidium sinense, and Cymbidium tortisepalum var. longibracteatum, and orchid enthusiasts often evaluate them together.

Its biggest highlight lies in the flower color. So-called multi-color generally means that two or more colors appear on the same flower; beyond the main color of the petals, another layer of color is blended in at the petal tips, petal edges, or veins, giving it a clearly layered look. Light, temperature, and the plant's growth condition all affect how the multi-color is expressed, and the same variety often shows different depths of color when it blooms in different environments.

For care, the multi-color peony has habits similar to ordinary Chinese orchids: it prefers loose, breathable, slightly acidic potting medium, and is often grown in a mix of materials such as bark and Kanuma soil. In daily care, it should be placed in a ventilated spot with scattered light, and watering should follow the rule of watering when dry and letting it dry out when wet, avoiding long-term standing water in the pot. During the growing season, apply light fertilizer frequently. In summer, pay attention to shading and cooling. In winter, let it go through a relatively cool dormancy period, which is more conducive to blooming the following year.

Common problems are mostly scorched leaf tips and root rot. The former is often related to dry air and overly concentrated fertilizer solution, while the latter is mostly caused by overly frequent watering or compacted potting medium. Multi-color flowers are outstanding in ornamental value, and such varieties enjoy a certain collecting popularity among orchid enthusiasts. When purchasing, it is recommended to use legitimate channels and carefully check whether the plant matches the variety, so as to avoid buying misrepresented goods.
