The Lanping Peony was discovered in 2006 by Comrade Zhu Cailin of Lanping County. It was a cluster of about 5 orchid seedlings growing in a groove on top of a large round stone beside the road in Yingpan Town, Lanping County. After being dug up, it was cultivated at home. At the time, due to lack of experience, it did not grow well, and only one old seedling with two buds remained. Later, after careful cultivation, it pulled through. It has now grown to more than 10 seedlings. It bloomed for 3 consecutive years from 2011 to 2013, all with peony petal-type flowers, with many petals and many lips, and good color. Each stem bears 2-4 flowers, and every flower is a peony petal type, with good stability and no variation (guaranteed by the grower). The leaf type is 0.4-0.7 cm wide, with shallow V-shaped leaf grooves, semi-pendant leaves, small buds with a red blush, and 5-7 leaves.
