Anthurium, also known as flamingo flower, red anthurium, and fire crane flower, is a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant of the genus Anthurium in the family Araceae, native to the tropical rainforest regions of Central and South America. Its most striking feature is the brilliantly colored spathe, which is often mistaken for petals, while the spadix standing upright in the center is the true flower. The spathe comes in a rich range of colors, commonly red, pink, white, green, and orange, and paired with its deep green glossy leaves, it has strong ornamental appeal.

In terms of varieties, anthurium has numerous horticultural cultivars. Besides the common red series, there are also flower types in different color series such as pink, white, and green, as well as foliage varieties prized for their leaf patterns. Different varieties differ in spathe shape, color depth, and plant size, so they can be chosen according to the space available and personal preference.

For care, anthurium prefers a warm, humid, semi-shaded environment. It is vulnerable both to intense direct sunlight and to low-temperature frost damage, so attention should be paid to keeping it warm and protected from cold in winter. The growing medium should be loose, breathable, and well-draining, commonly mixed from peat, bark, perlite, and similar materials. For routine watering, it is best to water when the soil is dry and let it dry out between waterings, avoiding water accumulation in the pot that can cause root rot. Normally, you can spray water around the plant to raise air humidity, and during the growing season, apply light fertilizer frequently.

It should be noted that the sap of anthurium contains calcium oxalate, and skin contact or accidental ingestion may cause discomfort. When pruning or repotting, it is best to wear gloves and place the plant where children and pets cannot easily reach it. Overall, anthurium has a distinctive flower shape and a long ornamental period. It can be potted to decorate living rooms and halls, and is also a common cut flower material, making it very popular among flower enthusiasts.
