Huomei was discovered in the early spring of 2003, found by a Mr. Zhou, an orchid enthusiast from the south slope of Nanyue Mountain in Huoshan County, at a hillside called Mozijian about 3-4 km from the county town. In the spring of 2005, I purchased two seedlings from Huoshan, and in the spring of 2008, to participate in the 4th Anhui Province Orchid Expo, I named it "Huomei" and it won the gold award.
Discovered in the early spring of 2003. Found by a Mr. Zhou, an orchid enthusiast from the south slope of Nanyue Mountain in Huoshan County, Anhui, at a hillside called Mozijian about 3-4 km from the county town. The plant is small to medium-sized, with yellow-green leaves, V-shaped leaves with inwardly rolled leaf margins, outer leaves bearing dew and inner leaves arched and curled, extremely good in form, with slightly thick and elastic leaf texture, and vertical lines of dragon pattern on the leaf surface; only the old leaves appear slightly rough and are mixed with fine white vein lines, which is a characteristic of Anhui orchids. Leaf buds are silver-red, flower buds are purple-red, both with white tips, and the color at the tips becomes increasingly concentrated. The flower buds gradually turn to green sheaths with purple veins, with color gathering at the bud tips, and the bud sheaths develop a sandy blush. Its flower has three petals with tight edges, round heads and fine tapering roots, with white tips on the petal ends, Guanyin dou-held heart, the held ends slightly creamy yellow, a small Liuhai tongue, with two symmetrical red patches on the tongue surface and colored dots at the tongue base. The slender scape is tall and upright, with the top node turning pure green; the red sheath with purple veins and sandy blush is extremely good, the petal texture is glutinous and the color is tender jade-green, and it does not fall apart in spirit or form even after being open for a long time.

Huomei should be regarded as a divine-grade plum-petal variety among Anhui orchids, and is also outstanding among all the newly introduced varieties and both new and old varieties from various places, and is moreover one of the very few famous Cymbidium varieties that can stand alongside the old Four Great Masterpieces.

Seeing its flower is truly breathtaking. I privately think that Huomei, whether in flower quality or leaf posture, compared with the old Four Great Masterpieces, may perhaps be inferior by only one or two points.
