Magnesium humate is an organic-inorganic fertilizer made by combining humic acid with the magnesium element, and it usually appears as a dark brown powder, flakes or granules. Humic acid generally comes from natural materials such as weathered coal, lignite and peat; once complexed with magnesium, it contains both organic matter and can supply magnesium nutrition, and it is commonly used for soil improvement and for supplementing medium and trace elements.

Magnesium is a core component of chlorophyll, and when magnesium is deficient, the areas between the veins of older leaves tend to lose their green color and turn yellow, which is especially obvious in crops such as citrus, grapes, vegetables and tobacco. The humic acid in magnesium humate has a certain complexing and adsorbing capacity, which can slow the loss and fixation of magnesium in the soil, raise its utilization rate, and at the same time improve the soil's aggregate structure and help build up soil fertility.

In terms of use, magnesium humate can be applied to the soil as a base fertilizer or a topdressing, or diluted and applied by flushing, drip irrigation or foliar spraying; the specific concentration should follow the product instructions. The effect is relatively better on acidic soils, sandy soils and plots where magnesium is easily leached away; foliar spraying is best done in the morning or evening, avoiding periods of high temperature and strong light, to reduce the risk of leaf burn.

When buying, choose properly registered products and pay attention to the labeled humic acid content and magnesium content. The product should be stored in a cool, dry place to avoid moisture and caking; it should not be mixed at will with strongly acidic or strongly alkaline substances, so as not to affect fertilizer efficacy. Used together with organic fertilizers and compound fertilizers, the nutrient supply is usually more balanced and stable.
