Louis XIV flower usually refers to the Louis XIV rose, a well-known garden variety in the genus Rosa of the family Rosaceae, bred and named by French breeders in tribute to King Louis XIV in French history. It is not a flower that grew in that era, but a type of modern rose, named for its noble and mysterious character.

Its most striking features lie in the flower color and texture. The petals are deep purplish red, tending toward red or black as light and temperature change, appearing almost black-red to the eye, with a velvet-like sheen, so it is often grouped with the black roses. The flower form is double, with full, layered petals and a rich fragrance, making it a rose variety with a notably pronounced scent.

In terms of symbolism, the Louis XIV flower is often given the meanings of mystery, nobility and uniqueness, and some people use it to express love at first sight, so it is suitable both as a gift and for decorating courtyards and balconies. When grown in a pot, choose a slightly larger pot; when planted in the ground, leave enough ventilation space so the plant can spread out fully.

For care, it likes a sunny, well-ventilated environment, and the soil is best loose, fertile and well drained. Watering can follow the principle of letting the soil dry before watering again; supplement nutrients appropriately during the growing season, and promptly cut off spent flowers and dead or weak branches after blooming to help concentrate nutrients. In daily care, also watch for black spot, powdery mildew, aphids and red spider mites; keeping the environment ventilated and well lit can noticeably reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases.
