Air purification, simply put, means reducing the concentration of dust and some harmful gases in the air through adsorption, absorption and other means, making the indoor environment fresher. In everyday flower-growing discussions, what people usually call air purification mostly refers to using green plants to improve indoor air quality.

Green plants purify the air mainly in two ways: first, the leaves can adsorb dust floating in the air; second, the plant can absorb certain gases during metabolism while releasing moisture and oxygen, making the room more humid and comfortable. However, a single plant has a limited effect. The purifying effect is related to the size of the plant, the leaf area and the number of plants placed, so green plants should not be treated as an all-purpose air cleaner.

Common air-purifying plants fall roughly into several categories: foliage plants such as pothos and ivy are shade-tolerant and easy to grow, suitable for the living room and study; flowering plants such as gardenia and Cymbidium ensifolium let you enjoy the flowers while also purifying the air; succulent plants such as snake plant and aloe are low-maintenance and fit well on a balcony or windowsill. Choosing according to your own light conditions and care habits will give you a higher survival rate.

If you want the plants to keep working, you cannot be lazy with routine care: regularly wipe dust off the leaves, keep ventilation and moderate light, and only when the plants grow vigorously will their purifying ability be more stable. Also note that too many plants should not be placed in the bedroom at night. Green plants are only an auxiliary means; on smoggy days or in a newly renovated room, you should still open the windows for ventilation and other methods, so that the two approaches work together for a better effect.
