'Hongyun Dangtou' is a folk name for a type of ornamental bromeliad, most often referring to perennial herbaceous plants in the Bromeliaceae family such as Guzmania. Its inflorescence is bright red and stands erect at the top of the leaf rosette, looking fiery and festive, which is how it got its name; it is often displayed as a potted plant during festivals, housewarmings or business openings, symbolizing good fortune and good luck.

Its leaves are arranged in layered rosettes from the base, overlapping and clasping one another to form a water-storing leaf cup, which is a very typical feature of this type of plant. During the flowering period, bright red bracts emerge from the center, and the ornamental period is relatively long. It should be noted that a 'Hongyun Dangtou' plant usually blooms only once in its lifetime; after flowering the mother plant gradually weakens, but side shoots sprout from the base, which can be divided and grown into new plants.

In terms of care, 'Hongyun Dangtou' prefers a warm, humid environment and bright, indirect light; it dislikes harsh direct sun and is not tolerant of low-temperature frost damage. When watering, in addition to watering the potting soil, a suitable amount of water should also be kept in the leaf cup, and care should be taken to keep the water clean; the soil should be a loose, breathable, well-draining medium to avoid prolonged waterlogging.

Common problems in daily growing include root rot, yellowing or blackening leaves, and wilting after flowering, most of which are related to overwatering, improper light, or temperatures that are too low. If root rot is found, promptly remove the plant from the pot, trim, change the soil, and replant; if the leaves show abnormalities, first check water, fertilizer, and environmental factors; and withering after the flowers fade is a normal physiological phenomenon, so simply cut off the spent flowers and care for the side shoots well.
