What to Do When the Leaves of a Bromeliad (Guzmania) Wither? Causes and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
This green plant is very robust, and many friends have this kind of flower growing well at home, with emerald green leaves and gorgeous blooms. But some friends say that their plant's leaves have withered for some unknown reason, looking listless, and they do not know what measures to take to help it regain its former vitality. Let me explain!

1. Unsuitable Temperature

It likes warm, humid areas. During the day, adjust the temperature for it to 21 to 28°C, and at night to 18 to 21°C. In summer, do not let it exceed 35°C, as too much heat is bad for its development, and it should not be kept in a 10°C environment for long, or its leaves will change color.

Solution: In winter, help it by spraying cold-protection agents, such as New High-fat Film suspension and similar products, which can reduce the chance of it dying.

2. Improper Watering

It likes moisture. Normally, just keep the soil in a moist state, and pause watering if it rains. Both its leaves and flowers are highly ornamental, so it is best to spray a little water on the leaves every day to remove dust; the leaves will become more glossy and its growth will be promoted. If there is too much water, the pot is too wet, there is no oxygen in the soil, the roots will rot, making its breathing difficult and the absorption of nutrients inconvenient, and the leaves will wither. If it is not watered for a long time, its leaves will also become dull and then wilt; first the lower leaves of the plant age and fall, then the upper ones wither and drop. If the surrounding humidity is below 50%, its leaves will curl up as if withered.

Solution: Immediately control the amount of water, stop fertilizing first, and loosen the soil to improve its aeration.

3. Unreasonable Fertilizing

It blooms in winter and requires sufficient nutrients. If it lacks nitrogen, the branches will be very thin, and the leaves will turn withered and yellow. If there is too much fertilizer, the newly grown leaves will be very thick with rough texture, and the old leaves will wither and fall off.

Solution: If there is too little fertilizer, repot it, replace it with fresh fertile soil, and add some compound fertilizer. If there is too much fertilizer, immediately stop fertilizing, water more to help the fertilizer flow out of the pot, or immediately dig out the plant, wash the soil off the roots with water, and plant it in new soil.

4. Insufficient Light

If it lacks the nourishment of sunlight, its leaves will also dry up.

Solution: To make its leaves grow well, in winter let it bask in the sun for four or five hours. If it rains, you can use a lamp to shine on it.
