Can Guzmania be kept indoors? Indoor placement precautions
I. Can it be kept at home?
As mentioned at the beginning, yes, it can. It contains no toxic components, and keeping a pot of this flower at home is truly a great choice. Its flowers are dense and its colors are vivid, looking very festive, and its flower language means "completeness," so placing it indoors carries a good meaning as well.
Most green plants open the stomata of their leaves during the day when carrying out physiological activity and close them at night, but this plant is the opposite. This flower can release O2 at night, which in technical terms is called crassulacean acid metabolism. It is precisely for this reason that at night it can absorb a huge amount of carbon dioxide and then release oxygen that is good for us.
II. How to care for it
Even if it is kept indoors, it cannot be placed in a very dark area. It is a perennial herbaceous green plant that originated in tropical regions, so it loves warm, moist places. If kept indoors, it should be placed in an area with airflow and light, otherwise its growth will become abnormal.
1. Normally keep the soil in the pot moist. When it rains, there is no need to water. If the water you use is not purified water, let it sit and air out first before watering; do not water directly. If the weather is hot, spray more water, in small amounts but frequently, spraying both the leaves and the surrounding air to maintain good humidity and also remove dust from the leaves.
2. It blooms in winter, and at this time you need to provide enough fertilizer. Generally, add liquid fertilizer once every half month; homemade fertilizers such as rice-washing water are also fine.
3. It needs to live in an environment with a temperature of 15 to 22 degrees. In winter, the lowest temperature must not drop below 10 degrees, otherwise it will suffer cold damage, its leaves will turn yellow, and its normal growth will be affected.
4. If it is kept indoors, you should also occasionally move it outside to get some sunlight so it can grow even better. It needs loose soil with good drainage. You can use burned grass ash mixed with some fine sand to grow it, and it will grow even better this way.
