Evergreen shrubs are shrub-type plants whose branches and leaves stay green throughout the year and do not shed all their leaves in a single season. Most of them are low-growing, without an obvious main trunk, and their branches often grow in clusters from the base. Their leaves live for a long time, and when old leaves fall, new leaves quickly take their place, so the whole plant looks lush all year round. There are many common types of evergreen shrubs, such as osmanthus, camellia, gardenia, azalea, boxwood, pittosporum, Aglaia odorata, and Chinese fringe flower (Loropetalum chinense var. rubrum), and many of them can be grown both in the ground and in pots. In gardens, these plants are often used as hedges, color blocks, or courtyard accents, and they are also suitable for placement on balconies and in living rooms as foliage and flowering plants. In terms of care, most evergreen shrubs prefer a bright environment, and watering should follow the principle of letting the soil dry before watering again, avoiding long-term waterlogging in the potting soil that can cause root rot. Common potted plants such as the money tree often develop yellowing and falling leaves because of overwatering. During the peak growing season, fertilizer can be added appropriately, and after flowering, spent flowers and overly dense branches should be cut off in time, which both keeps the plant shape attractive and helps with ventilation and light penetration. In daily care, pay attention to pest and disease prevention, keep the environment well ventilated, and promptly clean up dead leaves and fallen flowers to reduce problems such as scale insects, spider mites, and leaf spot disease. As long as light, water, and fertilizer are managed properly, evergreen shrubs can remain green for a long time, adding lasting vitality to the home and courtyard.
