Which is better, sassafras or elm

Elm wood is tough, with clear and straight grain and moderate hardness and strength. It generally adapts to both openwork carving and relief carving, with a smooth planed surface and beautiful tangential figure, bearing the grain of "chicken-wing wood", and it is one of the main furniture materials. Its wood is characterized by a clear distinction between heartwood and sapwood: the sapwood is narrow and dark yellow, while the heartwood is dark purplish gray; the material is light and relatively hard, with relatively high mechanical strength, straight grain and coarse texture. It can be used for furniture, decoration and so on. After drying, shaping, carving, polishing and lacquering, elm can be made into fine carved lacquer crafts. It can be seen everywhere in the furniture markets of the north.
In addition to this species, the genus Sassafras also includes two other species, the American sassafras and the Taiwan sassafras. The tree can reach 35 m in height and 1.3 m in diameter at breast height. The trunk is full and straight. The bark is dark gray and longitudinally fissured. The leaves are alternate, entire or 2-3 lobed. Pinnate veins; petioles slender. Flowers bisexual, anthers 4-locular. Drupes are purplish black or bluish black. It is mainly distributed in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangdong and Guangxi. Its vertical distribution is mostly below 800 m above sea level. Natural forests are mostly located in valleys and the middle and lower parts of slopes, mixed with masson pine, Chinese fir, camphor and so on, distributed in clumps or scattered as single trees. It is light-demanding, prefers a warm and humid climate, and prefers deep, loose, well-drained acidic red soil or acidic yellow soil, and can be planted for afforestation. Sassafras wood is hard and dense; the sapwood is yellow or light brown, and the heartwood is chestnut brown or dark brown, with beautiful grain, strong pressure resistance, aromatic, and resistant to water and moisture, making it a timber for shipbuilding, construction and furniture. The branches, leaves and roots contain aromatic oil and can be used medicinally.
