How to tell real cypress essential oil from fake
A considerable number of essential oils are plant hormones, possessing the same constituent substances and life energy as humans. The molecules of essential oils are extremely fine and highly penetrating, so they can enter and leave the body very effectively. However, if one essential oil is used in large amounts over a long period, toxins can accumulate because the body cannot eliminate it in time (especially in people with problems of the lymphatic and excretory systems).
Even for pure essential oils, the way they behave when dropped into water differs: some spread into a whole sheet (but this sheet means forming a kind of film across the entire water surface), while others become round beads. However, since pure essential oils are lighter than water, they generally will not sink to the bottom, so if your essential oil sinks, you should be careful. Yet there really are essential oils with a specific gravity greater than water.
The alcohol test is also one method, but it can only rule out whether a carrier oil or white oil that is insoluble in alcohol has been added to the essential oil. It is best to use 95% alcohol: after dropping in 1-2 drops of essential oil, shake thoroughly. If it fully dissolves in the alcohol immediately, or also gradually dissolves completely in the alcohol after 3 hours, it shows that it contains no carrier oil or white oil that is insoluble in alcohol.
