Purple Rose Planting Methods and Key Technical Points Explained

Growing Techniques By Emily Carter 0 views

The purple rose: true purple roses originated from the hybrid descendants of Rosa gallica, Rosa gallica hybrids, and through hybridization were passed on to the Damask rose hybrid lines, the Centifolia rose hybrid lines, and others. Some modern roses have successfully inherited this purple color, such as Cool Beauty and Blue Sky. Therefore, today's purple roses are in fact purple modern roses or old garden roses.

Propagation Methods

Light purple modern roses are easy to propagate and cultivate. Propagation is mostly done by division and cuttings. Sowing must be done in autumn, and the seeds should be given sand storage treatment. Sand storage treatment method: mix sand with a small amount of soil, moisten with water, to the degree that it holds together when squeezed in the hand and crumbles into grains when released. Then wash the seeds and mix them into the sand. In a sunny or semi-shaded spot, dig a trench 60 cm wide and 80 cm deep running east to west, bury the sand mixed with seeds inside it, and leave air holes. Dig them out in early spring of the following year; seeds that have cracked are best for sowing. Division propagation can be done in both spring and autumn, with autumn being better. Separate 1~2 year old seedlings from the old plant with part of the roots, and it is even better if the wounds can be disinfected; they root extremely easily. Cuttings are mostly taken in July~August. Choose robust, well-filled two-year-old branches, cut 15~20 cm long sections as cuttings, each cutting needing at least three leaf buds, with the lower part cut into a slanted horseshoe shape and the upper part cut flat. Both pot cuttings and bed cuttings are fine. After cutting, shade them and protect them from the sun, and sprinkle water frequently to maintain a certain humidity and temperature. After about one month they will root and become new plants, and after one year they can be transplanted.
The purple Rosa gallica, however, has a relatively low cutting survival rate and needs to be propagated by grafting and division.

Cultivation Techniques

1. The ecological habits of the purple rose are similar to those of the rose; it is an upright shrub. The purple rose can reach 2 m in height, with thick dense stems, branches densely covered with downy hair, with prickles and glandular hairs, and with curved or upright yellow thorns. Its leaflets are elliptical or elliptical, with a sharply pointed tip, a rounded or broadly wedge-shaped base, dark green above and grayish green below; the flowers are solitary and in leaf axils, and the pedicels are densely covered with downy hair or glandular hairs; its petals are obovate, double to semi-double, fragrant, and the purple rose's flowering period is in May - June. It likes to grow in sunlight and is best suited to loam with good drainage and a loose texture.

2. The cultivation of the purple rose usually adopts the sowing method and the cutting method. The sowing method for the purple rose is usually for developing varieties and for use; the seeds harvested in autumn are placed in a plastic bag full of wet sand and placed in a certain environment where the seeds can germinate; and heeled branches can be used for the cutting method, and semi-lignified branches can also be used, with hardwood cuttings.

3. With the hard water-plugging method, the water should be soaked to half the water level, and it needs to be changed once every 2 to 3 days; when the skin of the new root branches turns pale yellow or light brown, they can be used to cultivate nutrient bags for the seedlings.

4. The value of the purple rose is mainly reflected in its own ornamental value and practical value. The purple rose tastes sweet and warms the heart, and can be used to regulate low mood and strengthen the body's vitality; in addition, the purple rose also has the effect of balancing hormones, which is of great help to women's beauty and health, so the color contains various organic substances and has a very good beauty and skin care effect; in addition, the purple rose itself is also a very highly ornamental plant, so it is also used as an ornamental plant for people to admire.
