Rosa laevigata Planting Methods and Key Techniques

Growing Techniques By Emily Carter 0 views

Rosa laevigata is a plant in the Rosaceae family. It is an evergreen climbing shrub that can reach a height of 5 m. Every part of Rosa laevigata is useful: its fruit can stabilize essence and astringe the intestines, reduce urination and stop diarrhea, and is mainly used to treat spermatorrhea, enuresis, frequent urination, diarrhea due to spleen deficiency, cough due to lung deficiency, spontaneous sweating and night sweats, and abnormal uterine bleeding with leukorrhea. Its roots, leaves, flowers, and root bark can also all be used as medicine. The fruit of Rosa laevigata also contains nutrients such as various vitamins and trace elements. Besides its medicinal use, Rosa laevigata can also be grown for ornamental purposes. It blooms in summer, and the flowering period lasts as long as 4 months. Its fruit is graceful in shape, resembling a golden jar.

Rosa laevigata prefers a warm, dry climate and should be grown in a wind-sheltered, sunny spot with well-drained, loose, fertile sandy soil.

Soil: Potted Rosa laevigata should be given attention for drainage, ventilation, and the balance of various nutrients. The ratio is garden soil : leaf mold : rice husk ash = 5:3:2. It is suitable to repot, trim the roots, and change the soil around each overwintering period.

Watering: During the winter dormant period, keep the soil moist for Rosa laevigata; it is enough that it does not dry out completely. In early spring, as the branches and leaves grow, increase the amount of water appropriately, watering once in the morning and once in the evening. During the peak growing season and the flowering period, the amount of watering needs to be increased. In summer, when temperatures are high and water evaporation increases, water once in the morning and once in the evening each day, and avoid exposure to direct sunlight. When watering at high temperatures, a small amount of water should seep out from the bottom of the pot each time. When watering, do not splash water onto the leaves, to prevent disease.

Fertilizing: Rosa laevigata likes fertilizer. The base fertilizer should mainly be slow-release organic fertilizer. Add liquid fertilizer water once every half month, which can keep the leaves thick, dark green, and glossy for a long time. Before sprouting in early spring, apply a relatively concentrated liquid fertilizer once. Do not fertilize during the flowering period. After the flowers fade in June, apply liquid fertilizer once more. In September, when the fourth or fifth axillary buds are about to sprout, apply a medium-strength liquid fertilizer once more. In December, during the dormant period, apply decomposed organic fertilizer to overwinter.

Pruning: After each flowering cycle, Rosa laevigata must be comprehensively pruned. Generally, light pruning is appropriate. Promptly cut off spent flowers and thin, weak, crossing, and overlapping branches, and prune into a natural open-center shape, so that the plant shape is attractive and the flowering period is prolonged.

Management: After Rosa laevigata is successfully transplanted and emerges, pay attention to cultivating and weeding, improve the growing environment for Rosa laevigata seedlings, and promote concentrated nutrients. Then manage fertilizer and water well. In hot, dry conditions, water in a timely manner, but do not overwater. If there is excessive water or if there is rainy weather, pay attention to draining excess water from the field. In addition to applying enough base fertilizer before planting, at least two topdressings should be applied during cultivation. Control the amount according to the growth of Rosa laevigata and soil fertility, promote the growth of Rosa laevigata plants, and increase yield.

Harvesting: From October to November, when the fruit is red and ripe, pick it, dry it in the sun, and remove the bristles.
