Forget-me-not (scientific name: Myosotis sylvatica) is a plant in the genus Myosotis of the family Boraginaceae. Forget-me-not is a perennial herb, 30-60cm tall. The raceme is terminal, 10-15cm long; forget-me-not bears small light blue flowers, and the flowering period is April-May. It has strong adaptability, prefers a dry, cool climate, dislikes damp heat, loves light, is drought-tolerant, and its optimum growth temperature is 20°C-25°C.

Planting methods:

Soil and field planting of forget-me-not

For planting forget-me-not, choose a deep, loose, breathable, slightly alkaline sandy loam soil, apply well-rotted organic fertilizer and slow-release compound fertilizer, and after application mix them evenly into the soil; the planting spacing between plants and rows is 30 cm x 40 cm. When planting, the best depth is for the growing medium to be slightly higher than the root crown. After planting, keep the temperature below 15°C for 2 months to promote normal growth and flowering.

Fertilizer and water management for forget-me-not

During the growing period, all phosphorus fertilizer is applied as base fertilizer. 70% of the nitrogen, potassium, etc. is applied as base fertilizer, and the remaining 30% is used as top dressing, generally applying fertilizer once per season.

Applying boron fertilizer and potassium fertilizer during the flowering period helps improve flower quality and yield. It is averse to waterlogging and prefers a well-drained, dry environment, so the amount of watering should be properly controlled throughout the entire growth period.

    Growth habits of forget-me-not

Forget-me-not is a perennial herb and can be cultivated as an annual or biennial. For annual cultivation, plant in April to June, and it flowers in autumn, then continues until the following spring.

In summer, when temperatures are high, pay attention to shading and cooling, and in winter, take insulation measures. For biennial cultivation, plant seedlings in October to December; there is no need for insulation measures in winter, allowing the young plants to be induced by low winter temperatures, and they flower in the following spring, with the flowering period continuing until winter of that year.

Growers should choose suitable varieties to plant. Forget-me-not varieties are mainly divided into early-maturing and late-maturing types. Early-maturing varieties include Blue Pearl, Golden Shore, Early Blue, etc. Mid-to-late-maturing varieties include Blue Velvet, Night Blue, etc.
