Growing Techniques By Emily Carter 0 views

Jatropha pandurifolia, named for its fiddle-shaped leaves; also known as variable-leaf coral flower, fiddle-leaf cherry, South Seas cherry, and everyday cherry, belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family and the genus Jatropha. It is an evergreen shrub with red flowers, and the plant body contains milky sap, which is toxic. It is native to the West Indies, and is widely cultivated in southern China. The corolla of Jatropha pandurifolia is red, and it can bloom throughout the year. Each flower stays open for a long time, so flowers can be seen all year round, and they look like cherry blossoms, hence the name "everyday cherry"; because its leaves are fiddle-shaped, it is also called fiddle-leaf cherry; and because it looks like cherry blossoms, it is called everyday cherry. The other name, South Seas cherry, comes from the fact that it was introduced from the South Seas and so is called South Seas cherry.

Cultivation Methods and Precautions for Jatropha pandurifolia

1. Temperature

Jatropha pandurifolia is a tropical plant that likes a high-temperature environment, so it is best to maintain a temperature of 26-28 degrees. The temperature in this range is the most suitable for the growth of Jatropha pandurifolia. However, Jatropha pandurifolia is not cold-tolerant, and overwintering requires maintaining a temperature above 12 degrees; otherwise, there is a risk of frostbite or freezing to death. So for flower lovers in the north, if they want to cultivate Jatropha pandurifolia, they should pay attention in winter to maintaining the growing temperature of Jatropha pandurifolia and not letting it get too low.

2. Soil

It does not have high requirements for soil,

and likes acidic, sandy, loose, fertile soil rich in organic matter.

3. Watering

Jatropha pandurifolia likes a humid environment and is not drought-tolerant, so if flower lovers live in the north, the editor suggests that they may temporarily not consider this plant. However, liking a humid environment does not mean it can tolerate waterlogging, so be sure to note that the flowerpot and soil used should be loose and breathable.

4. Sunlight

It likes a warm, dry growing environment with plenty of sunlight, so in the middle of summer remember to find a shady spot for Jatropha pandurifolia. Even if it likes sunlight very much, it will not want to receive scorching sun exposure, as that will cause sunburn.

5. Pruning

Jatropha pandurifolia can also be maintained as a potted plant. It is a shrub flower, but the plant stands upright, and when grown in a pot the plant shape can be controlled to just over one meter. Regular pruning can also promote continuous branching, which helps form more flower buds and gives better ornamental value.
