Detailed Explanation of Ginger Planting Methods and Technical Key Points
Other names include ginger root, bailayun, gouzhuangzhi, yindixin, yanliangxiaozi, fresh ginger, and honey-roasted ginger. The rhizome (dried ginger), cork layer (ginger skin), and leaves (ginger leaves) of ginger can all be used as medicine. In traditional Chinese medicine, ginger has the effects of dispersing, stopping vomiting, and relieving cough.
Ginger planting methods
Seed selection and sprouting: In mid-March, take out the stored ginger seeds, sun-dry them for 5-6 hours, then remove the diseased ginger with rotten crowns and rotten stems, and select the relatively plump ginger with sprout tips already showing as seeds. Place the selected seed ginger in a greenhouse to sprout.
Plot selection and fertilizer preparation: The plot for cultivating ginger requires fertile soil, with loam or clay soil, convenient field irrigation and drainage, and preferably a slightly sloping hillside plot. Before planting, plow and prepare the land, prepare sufficient organic fertilizer, and pile and ferment superphosphate and compound fertilizer together with human manure and plant ash 2 days in advance for later use.
Breaking off ginger sprouts: Around "Qingming", select large and round sprout heads on the seed ginger, break them off together with the tubers by hand, keeping only one healthy sprout tip at the top of each tuber. If there is no sprout tip at the top, a side sprout can also be used, but only one side sprout should be kept, and all the rest must be removed. If sprouting is good, generally about 2000 ginger sprouts can be broken off from every 100 kg of seed ginger.
Opening furrows and planting: After leveling the land, open furrows row by row (furrow depth 30 cm) for planting, with a row spacing of 30 cm and a plant spacing of 25 cm. When planting, first place the ginger sprout tubers firmly, paying attention to keeping the sprout heads close to the soil surface and not tilting upward, then grab a handful of fermented fertilizer by hand and place it beside the ginger sprouts, and finally cover with organic fertilizer.
