Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum Planting Methods and Key Technical Points
Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum, also known as two-colored coreopsis, with the scientific name Coreopsis tinctoria, is also called "Qing San Gao Hua" among the people in the Kunlun Mountains area. It is native to the central and western United States and is a plant widely cultivated in western China, with the scientific name Coreopsis tinctoria. Because its growing environment has relatively little pollution and high altitude, it is rich in a variety of components beneficial to the human body, so it has gradually become popular as a tea drink. With the development of modern technology, residents of the Tianshan Mountains have begun artificial cultivation to develop its medicinal value.
Planting Methods
Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum is propagated by seed. The optimal germination temperature for Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum seeds is 15-25°C; the optimal relative humidity for germination is 65%-75%; appropriate hormone treatment can increase the germination vigor of Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum seeds, and light has no significant effect on the seed germination rate. In the highland areas of Xinjiang, sowing is done in spring. Seeds sown in May bloom in August. When planting, maintain a plant spacing of 40cm to facilitate later harvesting.
Sowing Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum
Time: Sowing is usually carried out in spring.
Sowing: Draw parallel lines in the field with a spacing of 40cm, each line about 2-3cm deep, mix Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum seeds with sandy soil at a ratio of 1:5, spread the soil mixed with seeds evenly into the parallel lines; there is no need to cover the parallel lines with soil again. 500g of seeds per mu is enough.
Water within two days after sowing; the first watering should be light so as not to wash the seeds out of the parallel lines.
After about 15 days, seedlings can be seen.
When most of the seedlings have grown 3 or more leaves, they can be transplanted.
Transplanting Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum
When transplanting seedlings, first dig the planting holes, spread a layer of organic fertilizer at the bottom of the planting hole as base fertilizer, with a thickness of about 3cm-5cm, then cover with a layer of soil and place the seedling in, so as to separate the fertilizer from the roots and avoid burning the roots. After placing the seedling in, backfill the soil, cover the root system, compact the soil, and water thoroughly once.
Pinching Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum
Before flowering, pinching is generally done twice to encourage more flowering branches. One to two weeks after transplanting, or when the seedlings are 6-10cm tall and have more than six leaves, remove the top shoot and keep the lower 3-4 leaves to encourage branching. Three to five weeks after the first pinching, or when the side branches grow to 6-8cm long, carry out the second pinching, that is, remove the top shoots of the side branches and keep the 4 leaves below the side branches. After two pinchings, the plant shape will be more ideal and the number of flowers will also be greater.
Fertilizer and Water Management for Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum
Like other herbaceous flowers, Tianshan Snow Chrysanthemum has a relatively high requirement for fertilizer and water, but the fertilization (watering) principle of "light fertilizer applied frequently, small amounts with more applications, complete nutrition" should be followed, and after fertilizing, the leaves and flowers should be kept dry at night.
