Precautions for Caraway Essential Oil and How to Make Fennel Seed Infusion
Precautions during the use of caraway essential oil: it is toxic. When carvone was administered to mice by gavage, the measured median lethal dose was 1.3±0.1 ml/kg; the animals first showed excitement (tail raising, convulsions) and died of respiratory arrest. When administered to rats by gavage, the median lethal dose was 1.64 g/kg. If glucuronic acid preparation, vitamin C (400 mg/kg), or glucose (2 g/kg) is injected intraperitoneally 2 hours beforehand, the lethal effect of carvone (oral 4 g/kg) can be counteracted; when given to dogs by slow intravenous drip, the lethal dose of carvone was 0.34 g/kg (heart rate slowed, blood pressure dropped).
