Traditional Chinese medicine uses ginger to remove dampness and cold. Ginger essential oil helps to disperse blood stasis and treat wounds. So what are its main components?
Ginger essential oil components:
More than 100 components have been found in ginger oil, mainly: Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons (accounting for 50%~66%), followed by Oxygenated sesquiterpenes (accounting for 17%), and the rest are mainly Monoterpene hydrocarbons and Oxygenated monoterpenes. Among the Sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, α-Zingiberene 15%~30%, β-Bisaboblene 6%~2%, ar-Curcumene 5%~19%, α-farnesene 3%~10% and β-Sesquiphellandrene (accounting for 7%~10%). Except for Neral, the content of low-boiling Monoterpene hydrocarbons is usually relatively low, about 2%. Studies have found that eucalyptol (l,8-cineole), linalool, citronellylacetate, borneol, geranial and geraniol are the most important aroma components of fresh ginger.
