How to manage edible fungi during the mycelium-running stage? Five points to remember

Five points to note during the mycelium-running stage of edible fungi

To ensure that the fungus bags run mycelium normally, they should be given fairly good environmental conditions during the mycelium-running stage. Pay attention to the following key points:

① Adjust the mycelium-running temperature well. For most varieties, the temperature during the mycelium-running stage should be controlled at 20-26°C, while straw mushrooms are best run at 30-32°C. Where conditions permit, constant-temperature control should be used to prevent excessive temperature differences, which increase air circulation inside the bags and trigger contamination by competing microorganisms.

② Adjust the air humidity of the mycelium-running room, keeping the indoor humidity at 55%-65%. During the plum rain season, turn on the air conditioner to dehumidify; in overly dry weather, splash water on the floor to increase humidity.

③ During the mycelium-running stage, exhaust fans should be used at set times to ventilate and exchange the air in the mycelium-running room, ensuring sufficient oxygen in the mushroom room.

④ The mycelium-running bags should be arranged neatly with the inoculation openings facing up. Only after the spawn has germinated and begun to colonize the substrate may they be laid on their sides and stacked for mycelium running.

⑤ Three days after inoculation, begin checking the spawn for germination and contamination. Bags that are contaminated should be removed promptly and must not be left in the mycelium-running room, so as to avoid contaminating the environment and increasing the contamination rate.
