What are some practical methods to prevent premature senescence in edible fungi?
For pest prevention in the substrate mix: when using corncobs, wheat straw or rice straw as the main material, an appropriate amount of bran or fermented decomposed livestock and poultry manure can be added; when using nitrogen-rich cottonseed hulls as the main material, no nitrogen source needs to be added, and a new high-fat film can be sprayed during mixing to repel pests.
Keep acidity and alkalinity moderate: the amount of lime added during mixing should reach 5%, and after each mushroom flush is harvested, lime water or plant ash water should be sprayed.
Ensure ventilation and adjust the temperature difference. Within 4 days after sowing, ventilate for half an hour at around 10 a.m. every day; as the amount of mycelium increases and large numbers of pinhead mushrooms appear, the ventilation time should be gradually extended to 2 hours per day. When temperatures are low, measures such as double-layer film covering should be taken to keep warm, and during the intense heat of midsummer, pay attention to spraying water and building a shed for shade to cool down.
Spray water appropriately: spraying should be done in the morning and evening, and the water temperature should preferably be around 30°C. During the fruiting body growth stage, the relative air humidity should be kept at 90%.
